Discovery

GG, checking out a sea star at Agate Beach last week. A quintessential summer photo.

I’m proud of the whale hat I made for my daughter. It took months. I’m fairly new at stranded colorwork, having only a pair of Totoro mittens in my repertoire. We went out to Arcadia beach and she kindly modeled it and let me take lots of pictures.

We took a trip to Oakland to round out the year, visiting my sister and my niece. Welcoming my niece to our family was a wonderful part of 2012, and we look forward to watching her adventures in 2013.

I do love the California sunshine.

That’s Jack London’s cabin, fetched from the Yukon to rest in his home town.

We took turns posing with the baby. She’s so darn cute.

Our flight back to Portland landed just in time to celebrate the new year at home. Happy New Year! I hope 2013 is kind to us all.

For GG’s birthday, this:

I feel so lucky to be her mother. My feelings are beyond anything I can communicate with words, photos, music, hugs, or anything else I know. I just have to believe she understands.

a hearty Saturday walk

I was all prepared to spend 14 hours judging a high school speech and debate tournament today, but as luck would have it, there was an excess of volunteers. I find it touching how many people volunteer their time for these tournaments. Students who have graduated even come back to volunteer alongside parents and coaches. GG’s coach has been giving his Saturdays to the cause for somewhere around 26 years.
For me today, the generosity of a group of graduates means a Saturday to myself, to work on gifts, snuggle with the pets, and walk the dog in the pouring rain. Aah, nice.

I’m still so new to blogging that I become easily mystified. How is it that sometimes my photographs are grouped in galleries and other times not? I wish I could say I was controlling the process, but alas, I think my blogging is rather like a fill-in-the-blank project right now, and likely more resembling a Mad Lib than an ace exam.

Autumn Colorwash

Maple

As our family out east elbows their way through the corner store to stock up in preparation for Hurricane Sandy, we slog through Oregon rain.

Lucky still needs his exercise when it’s raining, but if truth be told, he’d rather skip the wet adventures.

I love our autumn visits to Lee Farms! We’ve gone twice this October, and it’s as charming as ever.
